Gemma Parsons

Performer

Gemma has been performing in the Illawarra for over 20 years with companies including Roo Theatre, Wollongong Workshop Theatre, Phoenix Theatre, Arcadians Theatre Group and Eaton Gorge Theatre Company.  For Wollongong Theatre Company Gemma recently performed the role of "Z" in George Bernard Shaw's short play Village Wooing.  Previoulsy, she performed with many other members of the Ensemble in The Merchant of Venice, playing the role of Portia. Her other recent credits include all three female characters in The 39 Steps, The Woman in Death of a Salesman, and Pippa in Hotel Sorrento.  Outside of the theatre, Gemma works as a filmmaker for arts and cultural development organisation Beyond Empathy, using the arts to create opportunities for change for people living with hardship and disadvantage.

Johnny Sumelj

Performer

Johnny trained as an actor at Wollongong University, graduating with his BCA in 2003.  Since then he has appeared in a number of productions with various companies and hopes to continue building his professional experience with Wollongong Theatre Company, with whom he performed the role of Cornwall in its inaugural production, Lear (2015).  Some of his most notable stage performances include Mark in The Shadow Box (2003), Morax in Hell's Belles (2007), Leonardo in Blood Wedding (2007), Paul in The Coffee Haus (2011), Jack in the short play Champ's Diary (2011), Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire (2011), Bassanio in The Merchant Of Venice (2014) and Juror No. 7 in the critically acclaimed production of Twelve Angry Men (2014).  When not treading the boards, Johnny works as a voice artist.  His most notable work was voicing the role of Mr Monkey in the Viva la Gong puppetry spectacle Mr Monkey And The Magic Flying Carpet (2010).  Johnny is also a writer, having penned a number of short plays that have been produced including Natalie's Doubt (2007) and Maroon By Day (2013/14).

Dale Watts

Performer

Dale started acting in primary school, appearing in school productions before going on to be an original member of Black Sheep Theatre and a founding member of D'Rail'd theatre in Newcastle, also writing for both companies.  He then spent several years with Wollongong Workshop Theatre, appearing in The Government Inspector, Blood Wedding, Under Milkwood, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and The Provoked Wife, as well as writing and directing some shorter works. On television he has appeared in Pizza, Double the Fist, and Mansion Murders. His other theatre credits include Salanio in The Merchant of Venice and Don John in Much Ado About Nothing.  He was very pleased to play three separate characters in Wollongong Theatre Company's first production, Lear, and looks forward to appearing in future productions.

Ed Wiech

Performer

Born in Winterthur, Switzerland, Ed started performing at age 12 singing the role of one of three shepherd boys in Puccini’s Tosca alongside Australian Tenor Raymond MacDonald.  Lately he sings with the Arcadians Lamplighters Men’s Choir, and vocal ensembles 'con voci' and Eklektika.  He has been involved in performances in Newcastle, Maitland, Armidale, Uralla, Stanwell Park, Wollongong, Glasgow and Canberra.  His recent acting roles are Cheever in Workshop Theatre's The Crucible, directed by Nick Higgins and Juror 10 in Twelve Angry Men, directed by Ben Verdon.  His Shakespearean Roles include Balthasar in Much Ado about Nothing, directed by Tim Allen (Wollongong Botanic Gardens), Master Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor, directed by Juliet Scrine (Wollongong Botanic Gardens), Old Gobbo and The Duke in The Merchant of Venice, directed by Tim Allen (Phoenix Theatre).  He most recently played Gloucester in Wollongong Theatre Company's production of Lear.
